AI Should Connect the Organization, Not Create Another Silo

Explore how specialized AI agents can connect workflows, maintain context, coordinate across systems, and support the human workforce.

One of the most important omnichannel challenges discussed at Fierce Pharma Week 2026 may not actually be a technology problem. It's an organizational one.

Marketing has context. Medical has context. Analytics has context. Field teams have context. The customer experiences one company — yet internally, that context still moves through multiple systems and hand-offs, often losing fidelity at every step.

This is where agentic AI has a much bigger role to play than simply generating content or answering questions: it can become a connective layer across workflows. No single agent needs to know everything. Specialized agents can understand different domains, systems, and responsibilities, while sharing the appropriate context and coordinating toward a common outcome — effectively a digital workforce supporting the human workforce, working continuously, maintaining context, coordinating across systems, escalating when human judgment is needed, and learning from outcomes.

The humans remain accountable throughout. That combination — specialized, coordinated agents plus clear human accountability — is the architecture most likely to break down the organizational silos that technology alone has historically struggled to solve.

For organizations mapping their AI roadmap, it's worth explicitly asking whether each new capability is designed to share context with the rest of the stack, or whether it's quietly becoming the next silo with a chatbot interface.

This piece draws on the organizational-accountability panel at Fierce Pharma Week 2026, featuring Ted Schaffer (Bristol Myers Squibb), Annemarie Carpico (Jazz Pharmaceuticals), Patricia Casbas (AstraZeneca), and Marc Valdiviezo (Bayer).
